Full of pennies

The 1st Perth Andover Sparks Unit celebrated World Thinking Day with a funny and interesting activity. They took their smallest member and outline her figure onto two pieces of Bristol board.

During February, the girls brought in lots and lots of pennies and taped them onto the outline until it was completely full. The group managed to collect $15 for WAGGGS in this activity.

Gratitude is a world attitude

The fourth-grade Troop 15162 of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, US, put together the campaign ‘Gratitude is a world attitude’ for Thinking Day to collect pennies for thoughts of gratitude. Their efforts helped to collect US$ 127,03 for WAGGGGS.

They came up with some guidelines for their own donations and those of their family and friends. For example:

If you wear clothes you want to wear, be thankful and donate 5 pennies
If you have clean running water, be thankful and donate 25 pennies
If you have public transportation, be thankful and donate 7 pennies

The girls also researched world issues pertaining to each item and learned how many children are without food or education in our world.

Troop leader Michelle Walker says: “This awareness has humbled them in many ways. This was truly a unique learning opportunity for us as leaders, our Girl Scouts and our community.”

Philippines

We are from a very small School from Laguna in the Philippines and we are proud to tell you that we actively celebrated our Thinking Day last 22 February 2007 in our School Grounds.

It was started as a very simple activity of “Take the Lead”, where we invited a community leader to our place and interviewed her about her accomplishments being a leader.

Another activity we had was “Speak Out” from the Star Scout Group. They shared their experiences and had a simple discussion on the essentials of Thinking Day.

Songs, Dances and cheers happened and the girls were very happy for that activity. They really want to have more scouting activities.

Almost 100 Stars and Junior members participated in our memorable Thinking Day! We collected a little amount of money for the World Fund and submitted it to our Council. Wishing all the best for the WAGGGS.

More power to the Scouting Movement!

Lebanon

Every year the international team of the Lebanese Girl Guides Association prepares something special to celebrate World Thinking day. Following this year’s theme, we made a big game and 200 leaders and commissioners enjoyed playing.

The girls were divided into 14 groups, each one represented by one color. Each group had to pass by all the 7 stages of the game such as leadership games, guides games, logic games.... and in one of the stages, our leaders had the chance to open new international frontiers by sending to Guides from all over the world postcards expressing their wishes for Thinking Day, sharing their addresses and specially, enjoying new friendships.

Like every Thinking Day celebration, we did not forget to collect the "sou mondial", in fact, the posters that you made available on the website were very useful. They really helped us in collection of the amount that will be sent by my Association to WAGGGS, hoping it will help you raise 450,000 sterling so girls worldwide can...

At the end of the celebration, 70 colored balloons (representing our 70 years in WAGGGS), were left in the sky, expressing messages of peace and friendship from the Lebanese Girl Guides Association to the whole world!

Georgia, USA

Our troop had a great time hosting the 2007 Thinking Day Celebration for Soaring Spirits Service Unit of the Girl Scout Council of Northwest Georgia!

Twenty-three different troops of all ages participated by representing different WAGGGS nations. Each troop sponsored a booth for their selected WAGGGS nation, where the girls could experience a variety of hands-on, multi-cultural activities.

We enjoyed many different foods, games, music, crafts, and making new friends within our service unit. The girls went around to all the booths finding answers to a "Global Safari Scavenger Hunt". Participants received goody bags, a Thinking Day patch, and a certificate. Girls had passports that were stamped by each country and also exchanged swaps.

At the event, we also facilitated a group service project: the assembly of 200 paper doll kits for a local childrens’ hospital. Our troop had fun learning all about the WAGGGS nation we selected to study: Kenya!  At the end of the day, all the "nations" gathered in a huge World Friendship Circle. We loved Thinking Day!!!
